The Sanyo PowerBoy is the ideal choice for those who want a lightweight and easy to maneuver canister vacuum cleaner. Weighing only 7lbs it can tackle most surfaces and cleaning conditions and really does seem to have it all. And, by and large, this is true; however there are one or two things that might make you think twice before buying it.
Sanyo canister vacuums come in all shapes and sizes but the PowerBoy canister vacuum cleaner is one of the most popular models. This isn’t really surprising when you consider what you get. First, it’s lightweight design and large wheels means that it’s effortless to move about even in the tightest of places and, thanks to it low-profile design, it doesn’t tip over very easily.
You get 2 onboard tools; a crevice tool and a round brush. Both are readily to hand and can be used and stored easily. Another real plus point about this appliance is that you get both a reusable cloth bag and paper bags. Having both types of bags is a very nice feature; other manufacturers also ship canisters with both types of bags, Sanitaire is one such company.
The nozzle also features one or two nice features but it’s also lacking one thing that might deter some folks. But, first let’s look at what you get. There’s an air-driven rotating brush that can be turned on and off at the touch of a switch, which means you can easily and quickly change the figuration of the brush for all floor types. The nozzle also comes with an edge-cleaner brush. This feature works extremely well, getting the dirt out of a carpet right up the wall.
However, the nozzle brush does have one minus point; it’s only 10″ wide. While this may not be a problem for some, if you’ve got a lot of floor to vacuum you might find it a little narrow. Its width – or lack of it – is a real shame as everything else about the nozzle works great.

Bagless vacuum cleaners are becoming an increasingly popular choice for buyers. Not only are they more environmentally friendly but some models are cyclonic, which ensures that suction is never lost – even when the dust cup is almost full. Of all the bagless brands currently available, Sanyo vacuum cleaners are among the best; here’s why.
Not all manufacturers make canister bagless vacuum cleaners, however, Sanyo do make a very good one – the SC-270. Weighing only 7lbs, it has been designed to be light and easy to maneuver. However, you still get a wealth of features. First, the dust cup is a surprisingly large, being able to accommodate 2.6 quarts of dust. The motor is still a respectable 7amps so you can use it for all but the most demanding of situations. You have all the onboard tools you’d expect in a canister as well, including floor brush, a crevice tool, and a dusting brush.
The Sanyo SC-270 is an ideal choice for those who want a light, bagless vacuum cleaner.
However, if you have more demanding floors or a larger area to cover then it isn’t going to be adequate. Instead you need to consider either the SC-F1201 DirtHunter or the SC-H2000 EdgeGrabber; both of which are upright models.
The DirtHunter is the cheaper of the two. It features a powerful 12amp motor, 4 carpet height adjustments, 4-stage filtration system with HEPA filter, on-board attachments and a long 30-foot power cord. For most folks this would be the ideal and best choice of bagless vacuum from Sanyo.

The term “upright” vacuum cleaners came into existence when the Hoover Company attached the bag where the debris from the carpet was deposited onto the handle of the vacuum cleaner in the late 1940′s and put the motor on wheels. Prior to this innovation the sucking handle and delivery tube of most vacuum cleaners was a separate part leading into some sort of device, or canister, that held the carpet debris and the motor.
When it was first introduced, it was marketed on TV to housewives all across America as the greatest labor-saving device in history; sales soared. No longer would housewives have to lug heavy machinery around the house to clean their carpets. No longer would their vacuum cleaners require extensive storage space in the house. And while they are extremely efficient machines that clean large areas in record time, they are also easy to operate for that spilled ashtray or other debris that needs to be picked up quickly. Upright vacuum cleaners have become the best selling machines on the market.
However, there are some drawbacks to the upright versions. They are extremely difficult to use on stairs and, since they house the entire mechanical workings of the machine, they are often heavier. Even when made with today’s lightweight, heavy-duty plastics and space age metals, the overall weight of the upright vacuum cleaner exceeds that of its canister counterpart. They are also more difficult to use underneath furniture and in smaller spots around the house.
Some users say they have less suction than the canister vacuums but the manufacturers disagree with that assertion. It has been noted that when comparing the attachments for both types of vacuums, the upright attachments are smaller. Finally, the uprights usually require the owner to wrap the power cord around two latches on the side of the machine, unlike the canister vacuums which have always had retractable power cords.
Not everyone may be able to handle a heavy vacuum cleaner. It’s a good thing that most vacuum manufacturers nowadays are coming up with lighter versions of the standard vacuum. These small cleaners are the best options for people who can’t otherwise handle large machines and equipment because of age and general disposition.
Lightweight is great for the elderly and people suffering from certain medical conditions such as arthritis and osteoporosis. These vacuums often weigh less than ten pounds and won’t break your back or do damage to your spine. They’re easier to move around as the length of the handle is shorter and the motor is smaller and generally lighter. Some small vacuum cleaners even come without cords or bags that otherwise add more weight to the machine. So anyone can practically clean in less time as you can quite easily move from one area to another area without having to attach and detach plug from the electrical outlet. It definitely saves time and effort.
Most of these lightweight vacuums come complete with accessories found on larger, heavier vacuum cleaners. If you’re worried that this type of vacuum won’t do the job well, worry no more as you’ll find that lightweight vacuums can also reach high ceilings and tall cabinets to catch dirt and dust with the use of brush attachments and extension wands for hard to reach parts of the house. With crevice tools, you can clean around legs of chairs and bases of hard to move and heavy furniture. Some even come with rotating brushes and bare floor brush ideal for cleaning braided rugs and carpets.
Here are a few of the small vacuum cleaners available to buy in the market today:
